Canucks sign defenseman Pouliot for one year, $1.1 million

The Vancouver Canucks did not extend a qualifying offer to defenseman Derrick Pouliot, but they made sure not to let him get away either, signing him to a one-year, $1.1 million contract on Tuesday.Pouliot, who just finished his first season with the Canucks after three seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, would have become a restricted free agent had he not come to terms with Vancouver by Sunday afternoon.”Derrick was a valuable part of our blue line last season and has shown an ability to contribute offensively,” general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. “We are excited to have him back and to watch him take another step forward next season.”
