Devils’ Cory Schneider undergoes surgery after playing though hip injury | What it means

Devils goalie Cory Schneider underwent surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left hip on Tuesday, May 1.The surgery carries a five-month recovery period, so Schneider could potentially miss part of training camp in September or the regular season, which opens Oct. 6. His status will be updated over the course of the summer, and he is expected to make a full recovery.The hip injury bothered Schneider on and off throughout the season, and it was unrelated to the groin pull that cost him time in the middle of the season.Why NJ shouldn’t trade KinkaidSchneider missed more than five weeks with that groin injury in January and February, when he was forced to leave a Jan. 23 game against the Boston Bruins in the second period.Schneider returned to action on March 1, but he did not win another regular-season game while Keith Kinkaid received the majority of the work while helping the Devils reach the postseason. Schneider did play in four postseason games, where he went 1-2 with a 1.78 GAA and .950 save percentage.
